Hi, Cita Ciega listeners! Apologies for not having blogged for ages. My excuse is I've been busy at work recently and haven't worked out how to access this from my laptop at home. There's some Jaws conflict or some such nonsense. For those uninitiated in the joys of screen readers for the blind, in general, or Jaws for Windows, in particular, and want to find out more, please go agoogling. Anyway, Cita Ciega on Aculco Radio which I do every Saturday, remember? It's not going to be live this week, I'm recording the show on Fri 23rd Dec and my guest will be a young lady whose initials are DG she was born in Syria, her family moved to Italy when she was 12 and now she's a volunteer on Aculco. It's going to be a wonderful show during which I shall be asking her to speak some of her beautiful mother tongue, Arabic! She even spoke about reciting some Arabic poetry which would be lovely! There will, of course, be some improvised music too. On Sat 31st Dec my guest will be Baluji Shrivastav, a North Indian classical musician, who has played with Stevie Wonder and Massive Attack amongst many others! We will be improvising together and it will be fantastic! The following Saturday 7th Jan Linda Shanovitch will be my guest, an amazing singer, improviser and wife of Baluji, with whom she has worked extensively, as well as in her own right. I could have asked both Baluji and Linda to appear on the same show but they're both too good not to have a whole programme each! Come Mon 9th Jan I am training with my new guide dog, Acorn, so won't be appearing live on CC and may not on the following Saturday 21st but keep listening and reading and you'll find out! I hope you've all listened to the amazing Farsa Moneda who were on Cita Ciega live at 03:55 pm and repeated at 05:00 pm on Saturday 22nd October. If not, there should be a podcast soon on www.aculcoradio.com. they were excellent! They are a trio: Maria plays Spanish guitar, Violeta plays violin and sings and John plays cajon and other percussion. They play Coplas, traditional Spanish songs, which they perform and have arranged beautifully. I was so happpy to have them on my show! Lovely people too!

Hi, folks! Well, have we got a treat for you! The Spanish band, Farsa Moneda, is playing live on my show this Saturday at 15:30 (London Time). I've had musicians on before, I've had singers on before, but have never had a group of musicians and singers on Cita Ciega! The studio of Aculco Radio is very small so we're going to play in the larger anteroom, again a first for me. So don't miss my show, Cita Ciega, with Farsa Moneda live from 15:30 on Saturday 22nd October.

Partly thanks to wonderful K, I've got people lined up for Cita Ciega up to 12th November now: 15th Oct, a Spanish hypnotist; 22nd Oct, an Aculco Radio director; 29th Oct, a soul singer; 5th Nov, a charango player and 12th Nov, a kena (a flute) player. So be impressed! Actually, no, don't bother being impressed, just tune in for the next few Saturdays at 17:00 (London time) and feast your ears on my wonderful guests!

Hello, you lovely people! After a somewhat beery weekend (with friends from work and at a reunion with colleagues from up to 20 years ago), I'm catching up with my Aculco Radio mail and it looks like the charango player can do the 5th November. I'm also talking to a young lady who's in a 4-member a capella band who would like to be on Cita Ciega. I shan't tell you who they are until they've given me a date when they can do it but I've just listened to them on MySpace and they're fantastic! They do Eastern European songs although none of them are from that part of the world. C told me that they write the lyrics out phonetically and learn them. I'm very excited about them performing live on Cita Ciega! It looks like R, the charango player, is going to do 5th November which leaves this Saturday 15th October yet to fill. Must speak to Producer K later.

I'm so sorry! An unpardonable omission! You must be unable to carry on with your day, not able to think of anything other than what could possibly be the reason for me not doing my show again. I can only offer a lame apology for being the sole cause of inventions not being invented, babies not being fed, marriages not being consumated and legislation not being drafted. Let me put you out of your misery. I am going to a reunion with people I worked with the best part of 20 years ago for a jolly old drink in a jolly old pub. "Jolly good!", you cry, "We'll let him off for not doing his show again then! When, hen?" Tomorrow! I'm talking about tomorrow!

Oh yeah, the whole point of this blog being about Cita Ciega! I can't do a live show tomorrow again! I can hear the howls of anguish around the global village! Yet another Saturday when you won't know what to do with yourselves between 17:00 and 18:00 (London time)! My answer to that is that you've got another chance to listen to one of my Citas Ciegas. Can't tell you which one though. I'm back on next Saturday though! I was going to be at a recording session to record horns on a track for the Guide Dogs' band, the Bones, but the horn section have got other fish to fry. I don't know who my guest will be but, rest assured, there'll be a guest. It won't be C. I've just called him and C has got other fish to fry too. I wouldn't mind but he doesn't eat fish. He just fries them! Just spoke to K and she tells me my guest could be a 22 year-old Spanish lady but it could be someone else. I shall keep you posted.

Yesterday my younger daughter, my guide dog and I were at an excellent event. We were in Covent Garden, Central London, with loads of guide dogs, guide dog owners and puppies all celebrating the 80th birthday of Guide Dogs, the organisation which has created nearly 30,000 partnerships in the UK. It was a great event! The London Mayor's bus was there, the press was there taking photos and my guide dog, R, was very excited to be around so many dogs and couldn't stop wagging his tail. It would have been nice if all of the doggies could have free run in the square but that would have been a disaster. There would have been fights!

Haer mi hija, mi perro guía y yo estábamos con muchas personas, incluso 79 otras personas con sus perros guía, en Convent Garden, una plaza grande en el centro de Londres, celebrando el 80 aniversario de Guide Dogs (la organisación principal de perros guía en Gran Bretaña). La prensa estaba allá tomando fotos, el autobús del London Mayor estaba allá! Nos daron pastel y champán. ¡Era un evento muy especial! Mi perro estaba muy exitado de estar con tantos perros y movía su cola continuamente. Hubiera sido muy bién si hubiéramos podido dejar todos los perros correr y jugar juntos en la plaza pero eso hubiera sido un desastre.

Well, all you lovely people will be wracked with disappointment that I haven't posted since Thursday, this being because I haven't found a way yet of posting using Firefox, my preferred web browser on my home machine. Can't seem to activate the 'Create New Post button' from said web browser. I’ve not managed to use Google Chrome either although I’ve read that blind people use it successfully. Anyway, while you were all delighting in another chance to listen to a repeat of the Cita Ciega with the excellent Lupe Velasquez, J, K and I were at Tate Britain watching a short film about 2 aspirational girls of African descent whose only aspiration was to become rich, it seemed to me. All too common these days sadly! The film was excellently made with very good acting though. J stayed to interview the young female director of Nigerian descent while K and I found the Morpeth Arms along Millbank, with the kind help of a friendly security guard, where we had 2 pints each of delicious and beautifully kept Young’s Special. J looked for us there but could not find us so we went back to Brixton on a Number 2 and met up with him in Aculco Radio’s studio for a meeting about a visit to a school next month where K and I have been asked to talk about the benefits of knowing foreign languages. Quite apart from the improved employment prospects, knowing a foreign language improves your social opportunities hugely too. Being a linguaphile I shall be able to spiel on this theme and shall be delighted to interpret for K, where necessary, who has come from Latin America to work as a volunteer for Aculco Radio. We were also discussing different ways of involving the school in further projects as it is a language school, ie a secondary school which specialises in teaching foreign languages. We’re thinking it would be good to get the students to make a programme to be broadcast on Aculco Radio but we’ll need to meet with the staff to discuss what they want to do if anything.

there will not be a live Cita Ciega on this Saturday 1st October, not because I can't find a guest but because K isn't available to produce it. She is off to a well-known London art gallery to attend a meeting about workshops and I may be able to accompany her and J, one of Aculco Radio's directors, if J can get me a pass. A repeat will be broadcast instead. The shows for 8th and possibly 15th are also going to be repeats too but put Saturday 22nd October in your diaries because founding director, G, and I don't think she'll think I'm giving too much about her identity away, is going to be my guest on Cita Ciega! I'm not sure if she's going to sing for us. I haven't discussed that with her yet. We interrupt this message to bring you the latest news on whether RJ (that's me) is going to the meeting at the art gallery tomorrow. I've just phoned K and I am going to the famous London art gallery to attend the meeting about workshops! I don't know any more than this but shall let you thousands know soon. Back to your diaries now! Mark Saturday 29th October down as M, a colleague of H, my wife's, is going to be performing 2 songs on Cita Ciega accompanied by me on my acoustic guitar. I may even work out some backing vocals for the tunes: Sweet Thing (Chaka Khan) and Let's Stay together (Rev Al Green). I'm seriously looking forward to that!

I spoke with K about my idea about M coming on my show so she will hold off contacting R, the charango player until I've spoken to M. I hope all that's clear to you thousands who've flocked to my blog since I started it yesterday. I can tell that you're all sitting on the edge of your seats about who's going to be on Cita Ciega at 17:00 (London time) on www.aculcoradio on Saturday 1st October. If not, why not! You'll be missing a real treat whoever it is!

I need to find a guest for Saturday's Cita Ciega. Maybe K, my producer, can find me one. My guest can't make it after having planned it for weeks. think he forgot to tell his wife and she has made another arrangement. Can't say I've never done this myself so I can't get all high and mighty about it. My producer mentioned a possibility of a charango-playing English guy which would be great! Haven't had a musician on for ages! Had a Chilean charango player on a few weeks ago and he was brilliant - fantastic feel, lovely guy too.

Wie Ihr wahrscheinlich schon vom Englisch gelesen habt, mache ich jeden Samstag eine Sendung live im Internet-Radio-Sender Aculco Radio (www.aculcoradio.com), und zwar um 17:00. Ich lade Gäste ein, die Musik fürs Programm wählen und über ihre Leben sprechen. Live Musik kommt immer dazu, weil ich immer meine akustische Gitarre dabei habe. Meine Gäste singen manchmal, wenn sie daran Lust haben. Wenn ich das Programm nicht machen kann, wird eine meiner früheren Sendungen wieder ausgestrahlt.

The whole point of this is to promote my show, Cita Ciega, on Aculco Radio (www.aculcoradio.com). I could write this in Spanish, I suppose, given most of my shows are in Spanish but, having said that, I do shows in German and English too. I like to include some live music during my shows so always have .my acoustic guitar with me. Cita Ciega (blind date) happens at 17:00 (London time) every Saturday. I invite guests onto my show, they choose 6 tunes and we chat for an hour about their lives. Some of my guests perform a couple of tunes accompanied by me. I've been doing it since March and I love it. There are occasions when I can't do the show whereupon a repeat is broadcast.
